Capacity for generating a seamless wide field of view by an immersive display system is highly desired for medical, military and other commercial applications, since the human vision system has a well known field of view, typically, a horizontal field of view of 200 degrees and a vertical field of view of 135 degrees.  The C-View optical system delivers a 3D image, up to ± 135° with more than a hemispherical field of view onto a flat image plane.  As such, objects in the panoramic field of view suffer from the inherent barrel distortion when displayed on traditional 2D displays/monitors.  Instead of displaying these highly distorted 2D images on a traditional monitor, it is desirable to have an immersive display to present such panoramic images to viewers. At present, InterScience is developing C-View compatible display technologies that can deliver the panoramic image collected by the C-View optical system to the viewer without inherent distortion. InterScience is developing a benchtop immersive display based on projection, and also a head-mounted 2D display, whereby a small angle of view of the total image is displayed by tracking the head motion.
